Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Policy

Our ESG policy is a set of standards which we operate as a socially conscious investor and developer.

Environmental policy covers our performance as a steward of the natural environment. We recognise the essential role of the built environment and deliver energy efficient buildings which are tailored for every project to meet the needs of all stakeholders. Environmental criteria cover energy use, waste, pollution and natural resource conservation. They also evaluate which environmental risks might affect BCL’s income and how we manage those risks. For example, this will include environmental risks related to the ownership of contaminated land, disposal of hazardous waste, management of toxic emissions and compliance with the government’s environmental regulations.

Social policy covers the management of our business relationships with employees, suppliers, customers and the communities where we operate including the implementation of appropriate health and safety practices in line with regulatory requirements to protect our contractors, sub contractors, tenants and employees. Social criteria look at BCL’s relationships working with suppliers who hold the same values, we actively engage with charity work and our working environment shows a high regard for our employees’ health and wellbeing. We also respect the principles of equality and diversity in our employment practices.

Governance policy covers BCL’s leadership, executive pay, audits, internal controls and fund management. With regard to governance, our investors need to know that BCL manages personal data in accordance with GDPR regulations, uses accurate and transparent accounting methods, that potential conflicts of interest are managed appropriately and that BCL does not engage in illegal behaviour or use political contributions to obtain favourable treatment.

Barwood Capital is committed to reducing carbon emissions and increasing energy efficiency in our buildings.
